If you are thinking of getting a cat, then you need to make quite a few important decisions before actually deciding which breed to bring home. You might try to make this choice in accordance with their popularity, meaning that you should get some additional info on the most popular breeds and their personalities, or you can use some other criteria that might be important to you. For instance, some people tend to like larger felines, while others prefer smaller ones.
The fact that you are here tells me that you love the small and adorable ones that will practically look like kittens forever. I can definitely understand why you might be in love with these specific breeds as they are certainly gorgeous and charming and I don’t think that anyone can resist their cuteness. If this is the criterion you are using when trying to make your choice, then you’ve certainly managed to narrow down the list of potential breeds for you to a certain extent. Yet, you still have some narrowing down to do.
In other words, while this specific criterion can help you narrow down your choices, there are still a lot of different small cat breeds out there, meaning that you will have to do some more research and use some other criteria as well in order to decide which particular cat you want to get. Well, the great thing is that I’ve decided to share a list of small cat breeds that will make for perfect pets, and you will find that list below. This way, you can learn a bit about their characters as well, which will make your final decision easier. Here we go.
- Singapura
Since we are talking about tiny felines, it is only natural for us to start the list by getting you acquainted with the smallest breed in the world. This cat weighs 5 pounds on average, meaning that even your toddler will be able to pick it up and easily carry it around. I would advise you, though, to teach your toddlers how to handle cats in general, because you don’t want any accidents to occur.
The great news is that the Singapura is amazing with children and with practically anyone else, so you won’t have to worry about any such accidents. Although it is the smallest among the small cat breeds, the Singapura is quite energetic and active and you’ll never have a boring moment with this feline in your home. Their inquisitive nature will keep them exploring the premises at all times, but they also love cuddling up with their owners every now and then.
- Napoleon
The Napoleon cat might look a lot larger than it actually is and that’s because it has extremely fluffy fur. If you were to remove all the fur, though, you would be left with a 5 to 9 pounds cat that is actually considered a dwarf breed. Not that you should remove the fur, though, as that is definitely not a good idea. Their fluffy coat fits them very well and makes them quite beautiful and I suppose you understand why cutting it should never be an option.
Apart from their beautiful appearance, these cats are loved for several more reasons. For starters, they are known for being great with large families, including children and other pets. They also tend to have a lot of energy, which is great for kids and those other pets that I’ve mentioned. Of course, this does not mean that they don’t like cuddles, because they are actually quite loving, and they adore human attention.
- Munchkin
If you’ve ever seen a Munchkin, then you know that its size is actually determined by its rather short legs. The disproportion of their legs to the rest of their bodies makes them cute as hell. They can weigh up to 9 pounds and their bodies are similar to Corgis of the dogs’ world. When you lay your eyes on this breed for the first time, you will immediately wish to take it home, since its large eyes on its small face have the ability to mesmerize you and make you fall in love with this animal.
Of course, there are a few things you should know about Muchnkins before you decide if taking them home is a good move. They are friendly towards kids and animals, but they have one trait that makes them either interesting or annoying, depending on how you look at it. Simply put, they like shiny objects and they will “steal” those shiny objects around your home and stash them away somewhere, which can be a problem if you leave them alone with your jewelry. Talk about cat burglars, huh?

- Dwelf Cat
The Dwelf cat weighs up to 6 pounds and it is undeniably one of the tiniest felines in the world. This is actually a cross between the Sphynx, the Munchkin and the American Curl. What makes them stand out is the fact that they are so active that they sometimes resemble puppies, which can be a great personality trait. If nothing else, you will find the Dwelf cat quite interesting to be around, as it will constantly look for new ways to conquer the living area and be as active as possible.
